Just to provide a little contrast to The Star-Room’s most recent List Listopherson, I decided that we need to talk about the BEST jobs we’ve had throughout our lives…since it’s Labor Day weekend and all. I don’t know if we can all come up with 5, but let’s give whatever we’ve got. I’ll try to get 5 down after the jump…

Labor

All-righty then, I’ll get ‘er started…

1) Current job, producer at a radio network

2) Bartender at UNO’s in Clifton (Holla, Dave!)

3) Snapple promotional tour guy – ’99

4) Snapple promotional tour guy – ’00

5) Starbucks barista in Colorado Springs

    My best jobs:

    1. blow
    2. hand
    3. snow

    I couldn’t resist! Here’s my real list…

    1. Security guard (of sorts) at beautiful Storm King Art Center in upstate NY
    2. Selling random crap on eBay
    3. Friday nights at Greenhills UDF with my pal Jamel (sr. year, high school)
    4. Assistant Registrar at a small liberal law school in San Francisco
    5. The job I’ll be getting when I finish grad school next year! (How’s that for positive thinking?)

    1. Current job, independent web developer (that’s a fancy-schmancy way of saying I make web sites). No boss, make my own schedule and even a little bit of travel. Also the reason I have so much time to play rock trivia.

    2. Environmental Field Tech. This was the weirdest job I’ve ever had. The work itself was literally crappy. I had to dive manholes and install these little sensors that measured the flow through sewers. That’s what I call a smelly situation! But, I wasn’t stuck in an office and the crew I worked with was a riot. I guess you had to have a sense of humor for that kind of work. Also, it was here that seriously got into computer programming which led me to my current job.

    3. Server and sometime bartender at UNO’s in Clifton (back-atcha, Newms).

    4. Cashier at a Clark Gas Station in Oxford, OH. When I was an undergrad, I worked here for the last two years of school. I had keys to the place, so if we needed beer after 2 a.m., no problem!

    5. Part time at a small coffee shop in West Lafayette, IN.

    5. Mom

    4. program director for nonprofit

  • MO Says:

Is fakebloodspan the person formerly known as lwknar?

  • Red David Says:

    1. Off-Bway Theater Manager (My current gig. Or “career” even. Love it.)
    2. Theater Camp Counselor. (Too much fun to really call it work)
    3. Web designer for General Electric. (Tons of $, very little work)
    4. Kinko’s (where pot smoking was mandatory)
    5. Pot dealer (Obvious perks, though too many risks and too much paranoia to make it higher on the list)

    Not on the list: Tele-marketing

  • lwknar Says:

    1. actor (the being paid to act part, not the hustle and audition all the time part)
    2. teaching-artist (i especially like conning skeptical grown-ups into playing make-believe)
    3. company manager – taking care of crazy artists, love it
    4. bartending – chain-restaurant bartending is cake if you can stand the bueracracy
    5. costumed character (yes, in one of those very hot, very enormous animal costumes) – it makes the list simply because it happened

and mo…i am not fakebloodspam, though i’m honored at the comparison
