Check out this amazing portrait of our next President!  It was made by Kev Moore’s partner, French artist, Miki.  It really shows the worldwide respect that our country has gained by taking a step in the right direction by electing Obama.  Maybe it takes the U.S. hitting rock bottom to spur our citizenry off of their couches and into realizing that many of the ways we do things need to be changed.

Below the portrait are some words about the piece from the artist, Miki, herself.  Cheers, Miki!  Very well done!

So, my first Barack Obama portrait is finished.

I think it is quite different from the portraits I have seen from him on the net. On most of them the artists emphasize only one aspect of his personality.

This is not what I wanted.

I wanted to paint Obama as a human being, with all his facets:

his humanity, his leadership, his honesty, his hopes, his decisiveness…

Of course I never met him personally, so it can only be the Barack Obama I perceive through the TV and the photos I have seen from him. And I saw all of these qualities on his face.

I can only hope that I have caught a little bit of his soul…

And if you are wondering what he is counting…. words of course:

“Yes We Can!”

Thank you very much for your wonderful compliments! I feel very honored to have my portrait published “by the musicians” and I guess that Barack Obama himself feels very comfortable and relaxed here!
It was not my intention as I painted the portrait, but it is an immense feeling now to know that with it, I contribute a little bit to show you oversea how happy we are about your next President. As I commented in my blog, I painted him because I feel connected to him as a human being, and I ever felt or feel lie that to any other politician in the world.
Kevin and me, we are SO happy about this election…

I think she means “never felt or feel like that”! but, my pedantic English corrections aside – Miki and I agree, Obama’s election affected us profoundly, and I was astonished when I saw this wonderful finished work.

Be happy, dear hearts, and allow yourselves a few more weeks of quiet exultation. It isn’t gloating, it’s satisfaction at a job well done. He was a superb candidate, serious, professorial but with a flashing grin and a buoyancy that comes from working out in the gym every morning. He spoke in a genuine voice, not senatorial at all. He relished campaigning. He accepted adulation gracefully. He brandished his sword against his opponents without mocking or belittling them. He was elegant, unaffected, utterly American, and now (Wow) suddenly America is cool. Chicago is cool. Chicago !!!

We threw the dice and we won the jackpot and elected a black guy with a Harvard degree, the middle name Hussein and a sense of humor. He said, “I’ve got relatives who look like Bernie Mac, and I’ve got relatives who look like Margaret Thatcher.” The French junior minister for human rights said, “On this morning, we all want to be American so we can take a bite of this dream unfolding before our eyes.” When was the last time you heard someone from France say they wanted to be American and take a bite of something of ours? Ponder that for a moment.

The world expects us to elect pompous yahoos, and instead we have us a 47-year-old prince from the prairie who cheerfully ran the race, and when his opponents threw sand at him, he just smiled back. He’ll be the first president in history to look really good making a jump shot. He loves his classy wife and his sweet little daughters. At the same time, he knows pop music, American lit and constitutional law. I just can’t imagine anybody cooler.

It feels good to be cool, and all of us can share in that, even sour old right-wingers and embittered lottoheads. (I think he meant “dittoheads – Limbaugh) Next time you fly to Heathrow and hand your passport to the man with the badge, he’s going to see ” United States of America” and look up and grin. Even if you worship in the church of Fox, everyone you meet overseas is going to ask you about Obama, and you may as well say you voted for him because, my friends, he is your line of credit over there. No need anymore to try to look Canadian.

Great stuff, Crystal. And thanks a lot, Miki, for your fantastic art! I am the proudest I’ve ever been of my country but now it’s gonna be time to buckle down and work out all these massive problems.
