That’s right! From all the guilty lists that you all posted, I chose one from Dave’s to be the next Case for Collins entry today. This one just spoke to me especially since Michael McDonald has made somewhat of a comeback in popularity, although much of it seems to be for irony’s sake; unless perhaps there was a true reverence for Mr. McD’s original blue-eyed soul vocals in the Yacht Rock series, or even in the movie The 40-Year Old Virgin. Whatever the case may be, many of us NewmRadio subscribers dig us some Mike McD-era Doobie Brothers, so that’s what I gots for ya today. Orinially from the 1976 album Takin’ It To the Streets, the first album with Mr McDonald. Dig the smoooooothhhh….

It doesn’t get much smoother than that.

With all due respect, his singing makes my ears bleed.

Nope! You must be thinking of your other, uncool sister.

Okay, time to inject my big ornery self into this conversation…
I like exactly one thing Michael McDonald’s done: the background vocals on “Peg”. I like it because his ridiculous voice is used as a kind of weird, special effect-y sheen. It’s interesting.
Every other time Michael McDonald opens his mouth I want to vomit. And this includes when he does so on songs I otherwise LOVE, like “Any World (That I’m Welcome To)”, where he takes the finale from zero-to-cheese in record time.
That said, I love “The Case for Collins”!

I think it’s harder to make a case for Michael McDonald since his voice creates such a strong response. The music is pretty much straight ahead mid tempo stuff, but I find some of the rhythms and chord changes interesting. If you hate his voice, the music probably doesn’t matter too much.
If you do like it, so smooth.
