All right guys. I’ve been having a hard time figuring who should be spotlighted in our next Case for Collins segment. There have been a few ideas rolling around my little mind, but nothing I was really sure would entertain you. So I’m putting the power in your qwerty hands.

That said, what if I throw out a few of the names that have been coming up and you’s all can vote on which you think would make an interesting episode? Or you can also write in your candidate. No matter which you pick, and however much muck their name has been drug through, I will guarantee to find some redeeming shining-diamond of a song to present you with, so that we can all try to eek some respect out of this artists’ recently frowned-upon repertoire.

So read on for the list of candidates that I’ve been hesitating to expose and to vote

Journey 1) Journey

Bobby Weir 2) Bob Weir

Foreigner 3) Foreigner

Phish  4) Phish

Styx 5) Styx

Or right in your candidate below…and thanks for your help!

    I vote for Phish.

I think Journey, Foreigner or Styx do need a case made for them, as all three enjoy “ironic” popularity (see Family Guy, South Park, ATHF etc.).

I don’t know much about Bob Weir’s solo career.

But I think you’ve got a lot you can delve into with Phish. To counter the ‘Oh, they’re just a hippie jam band’ argument, you can point to one of the many musical styles they excel at. You could chronicle their changing styles from Prog rock to dance hall funk.

    There’s lots to talk about.

Is that Tommy Shaw or some strange little elf?

Matt and I were just discussing Foreigner (and singing a few of their songs) at work today, so I vote for them. It feels like the twelfth time…

  • MO Says:

Does anybody like Toto? Just wondering.

  • newmradio Says:

    Are you voting for them?

Everybody likes the “Africa” song in some weird way…and maybe even “Rosanna”.

  • MO Says:

I know, I hate to admit that I kinda like those songs, but that’s the whole point of this segment innit? “Hold the Line” is not entirely bad either…

  • Matt Says:

Bob Weir is the winner here by far. I don’t like Grateful Dead, but at LEAST Bob Weir is like a regular guy, from the sixties, who likes simple, folksy rock and roll. All those other guys are RIDICULOUS!

Regular guy, huh? Dig this… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPgyJYpSmms

Well, I stand up and admit to owning everything by Toto, so, I know its kind of an outmoded thing, but, as a musician I like to hear people who are masters of their instruments. Its no use someone playing Oasis to me and thinking Im gonna be impressed. They hardly know one end of a guitar from the other. I need to be IN AWE.

Foreigner went through a very dodgy period, after 4 great albums, but I thought the relatively late-in-career Mr.Moonlight was a belter.

Styx, primarily because of the keyboards, has dated badly, though I love Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight…but Tommy Shaw can even be forgiven for that awful fashion sense just for his solo work and Damn Yankees and Shaw Blades. Am I going on a bit? i’ll stop now.
