It seems like there is mainly a lot of stupid-shit news going on in the music world right now… Pete Wentz and Ashley Simpson to wed, another 60 summer festivals announced all at which Jack Johnson will perform, Scott Weiland likes drugs again, Panic at the Disco did something, and Norah Jones cut her hair. Wow.

Well, here’s a few things I distilled from the music world that is of any interest to… well, me. Dig…

For me, L.A. Woman by the Doors is an underrated classic rock album.

You are the Music, We’re Just the Band by Trapeze.Released in 1972 on the Moody Blues’ Threshold Label, it is a three piece funk rock band at their peak. Nobody, before, or since has done this genre better justice. With Glenn Hughes on Bass and vocals, Mel Galley on guitar and vocals and Dave Holland on drums, all three would go on to play with Deep Purple, Whitesnake and Judas Priest respectively. Guest appearances from Rod Argent on Keys, Frank Ricotti on vibes and B J Cole on pedal steel only augment this collection. Standout moments; Galleys incredible “feel” solo on “What is a woman’s role” The sublime masterpiece by Hughes:”Coast to Coast” and the funked up “Way back to the Bone” a simple, yet brilliant riff just dripping with da FONK.
The chorus on “Feelin so much better now” will leave you gasping in disbelief. No, its not Venetta fields and Clydie King, all those voices are Hughes. There is quite simply no-one to touch him. And all this from three white kids from Walsall, England. Check it out. They don’t make em like this anymore.
