I’m very happy to welcome the live ‘Interstellar California Vibes‘ of Jeffertitti’s Nile to Beyond Beyond is Beyond on East Village Radio on Thursday (noon to 2pm eastern). Come aboard the Space Shuttle Jeffertitti!
And speaking of Space Shuttles and shit, don’t miss the Dog Gone Blog party that JN will be playing along with our pals Minerva Lions and Superhuman Happiness…at the Church. Here are the FB deets.
Check ‘em out in the meantime…

I’m psyched to be welcoming the Brooklyn Raga Association to this week’s Beyond Beyond is Beyond show! This will be a first in the East Village Radio studio. EVR has never had a raga group play live, so get ready for some killer sitar, tampura, tabla jammin’ over the internet airwaves on Thursday at noon (ET).
And in the meantime, get familiar by downloading Brooklyn Raga Association’s awesome album for free over at Bandcamp.
UPDATE: LISTEN TO THE LIVE EVR PERFORMANCE HERE
I’m very psyched to welcome the awesome Swedish pop-psychsters, La Fleur Fatale to Beyond Beyond is Beyond on Thursday! I’ve been diggin’ these cats for a couple years now and awaiting the time that they made their first venture to these here United States.

And now is the time. As you can see from the flier, BBiB is the very first performance that they’ll do in America. So be sure to tune in Thursday at noon eastern to East Village Radio…on the great new popup player. Then come out to Perfect Prescription at Shea Stadium that night and see their first full U.S. live show ever…and catch me DJ’ing there too. Lots of fun to be had on a Thursday! See ya’s then.

Rockin’ Detroiters, The Sights have a great new record on Alive Naturalsound Records called Most of What Follows Is True. And they’re gonna be at Brooklyn’s Bell House Friday night (2/18) with the Reigning Sound!
But prior to that, they’ll stop by for a live session and a chat on Beyond Beyond is Beyond on East Village Radio. So come along on Thursday at noon eastern and see…I mean hear… The Sights!
It was a breath of fresh air when I recently heard Fergus & Geronimo’s brand-new album Unlearn, released this month on Hardly Art. It’s almost impossible to compare them to other contemporary groups because they seem to avoid being pinned down. That’s probably what I dig. Well, that and the killer songs that run the gamut from Zappa-inspired pop-psych to classic soul and doo-wop (and a bunch of goodies in between)!

And guess what? They’re gonna perform live on Beyond Beyond is Beyond on Thursday! I think we can definitely expect some fun from these cats. So tune in from noon to 2pm ET on Thursday to East Village Radio and come play with us.
Get a taste of Fergus & Geronimo’s ‘Powerful Lovin” right here…

And check them out in New York on these dates:

I’m happy to welcome the Strangers Family Band to Beyond Beyond is Beyond on East Village Radio this Thursday (noon-2pm ET). They are one of the best new psychedelic acts out there these days, along with contemporaries Mondo Drag, Sleepy Sun, Black Angels and Tame Impala. We’ll be chatting and spinning songs from their awesome EP…as well as some brand-new unreleased stuff.
If you haven’t heard them yet, go grab their EP for free right now at Bandcamp!
And then be sure to see them (also for free) at Bruar Falls on Friday, along with the amazing Black Hollies, Runaway Suns, and Julian of Perfect Prescription deejaying. Fuck yeah!
Hey there, Beyonders!
I’m happy to report that we will have a kickass live performance from a kickass new band called The Main Street Gospel, in the EVR booth on Beyond Beyond is Beyond this Thursday. Their beautifully fuzzed-out classic rock style shines bright on their Tee Pee Records debut, Love Will Have Her Revenge. Dig ‘I Won’t Be Stayin” below…

The Main Street Gospel – I Won’t Be Stayin’
Here’s a great quick intro to the band from Dan Epstein at Shockhound (where you can also download the free mp3):
Here at ShockHound, the only thing we love more than getting turned on to killer new music is when we can turn you on to it before anyone else does.
Which is why we’re so stoked to present the world premiere of “I Won’t Be Stayin’,” a fuzz-caked track from Love Will Have Her Revenge, the forthcoming full-length debut by the Main Street Gospel. Lodged somewhere between the bluesy scuzz of the Black Keys and the haunted highway ramblings of Neil Young, “I Won’t Be Stayin’” is one of those rare cuts that sounds both oddly familiar and intriguingly fresh. And you can only download it for FREE from ShockHound, baby!
Formed in Columbus, Ohio in 2005 by former Brian Jonestown Massacre tambourine shaker Barry Dean (vocals, guitar), Ryan “Tito” Ida (bass) and Adam Scoppa (drums), the Main Street Gospel’s brand of “mystic trip-rock” caught the ear of fellow bearded Ohioan (and Black Keys guitarist) Dan Auerbach, who produced and pressed up a couple of their songs on an indie seven-inch back in 2008. One thing led to another, and the band signed to Tee Pee Records early this year. Love Will Have Her Revenge, a wonderful album which touches upon everything from Byrds-y country rock to Spiritualized-type psychedelic mantras, will drop June 29.
But hey, you don’t need to wait until then to bathe in the cosmic vibes of the Main Street Gospel. Just click on the link above, and grab that free MP3 before it’s gone like a late spring breeze.— Dan Epstein
So tune in Thursday to Beyond Beyond is Beyond and here the Main Street Gospel live in the iconic East Village Radio booth!

And if you’re in the NY area, be sure to see them play live, along with the excellent Hopewell and White Hills Thursday night at Perfect Prescription at Secret Project Robot!
Hey Beyondites,
This week’s Beyond Beyond is Beyond show is quite special, as I’ll be welcoming Canadian ‘post-classic rockers,’ Plants and Animals. I’ve been championing these guys since I started the BBiB show early last year, spinning stuff from their Parc Avenue album quite often. And they just played a sold out show with Ra Ra Riot at Union Hall on Tuesday…with lots of touring ahead of them.
And now, with the release of their new album La La Land, they will be performing songs from the album live in the East Village Radio booth, 5 days before it’s release date…of 4/20!
Here we are outside the EVR booth…

So come join me, and Plants and Animals, at noon eastern Thursday at East Village Radio!

…I was riding my bike through Prospect Park today and heard Animal Collective sound-checking for a show tonight. Here’s what my iPhone and I overheard>>>

My radio show, Beyond Beyond is Beyond, will once again go live on February 12th from 2-4:00 pm on East Village Radio after a successful first episode. It will also be streaming afterward, for those that miss the live feed. The hope is that after the second show, BBB will be offered a regular weekly slot on EVR. Download the first show here.
Show #2 will be just two days before the most popularly unpopular Hallmark-created holiday for lovebirds, Valentine’s Day. And wouldn’t you (or your better/worse half or stalker/stalkee) want to hear your lovey-dovey or lovelorn song requests dedicated to them by you and read by amazing radio host, Mike Newman? Well, of course they would! So send me all your email requests for great love-themed songs to BeyondBeyondisBeyond (at) gmail (dot) com. Keep in mind the show’s format…make it rock or at least be trippy…or best case, BOTH! I won’t be able to play all requests…only the bests.
Can’t wait to see what yun’s have in store, and your lover will be blown away when they hear their psychedelic dedication! Remember, send ‘em now (no SASE required) to BeyondBeyondisBeyond (at) gmail (dot) com. Sorry…trying to dodge spam…… literally!

(Anyone get the ‘pickin’ pockets’ reference?)
Well, yesterday was Brooklyn’s famous Atlantic Antic street festival, the absolute best of all the New York street festivals because it’s massive, it’s the last gasp of organized outdoor fun before the cold weather kicks in, there’s live music, the food is amazing, there are plenty of adult beverages to enjoy, and it’s in Brooklyn! And, for me, it’s right outside my apartment door.

I didn’t get out there till about 3:30 because I was nursing a pretty hefty hangover from a late Saturday night, but quickly grabbed myself a bloody mary and a yummy Vietnamese sandwich and was on the up and up. I met up with a couple friends and ran into some others, but mainly spent the next couple of hours first with Red David and then just with my hazy hangover-headed self.
It was really nice to see all the Obama frenzy at the Antic this year. Everywhere I looked were people of different races, colors, religions, sexes, sexual preferences, musical tastes, and ice cream flavor preferences banding together in support of positivity, hope, and America’s future. You could get your picture taken with a life-size cutout of Barack, you could order an organic Obama burger, and even order Biden gelato. It reminded me of New Yorkers inate ability to see through bullshit, and it’s easy for us to see that there is only one presidential campaign right now which is running on truth and honesty…and it ain’t McCain/Palin.
Another highlight was walking by at the right time to watch a fantastic country rock band from west Jersey playing outside of Hank’s Saloon. I found that the band was called Citizens Band Radio, and these guys (and gal) know how to jam! It was cool seeing all types of people smiling and dancing to CBR’s music. Cheers to the band if they happen to stumble on this post!!! Keep up the good stuff!

And another highlight for me was scoring some new cheap vinyl! I got all of these for $1 each! And they’re all perfectly listenable. I’m listening to Fleetwood Mac’s cover of the Yardbirds’ “For Your Love” right now. Mystery To Me is a great album…I don’t think I even knew that the amazing song “Hypnotized” was done by the Mac. Here’s the full haul that I got for a total of $11…

I also, while I had the camera and records out, took some pics of the last couple vinyl scores I had over the last couple months. Click on through to see the others…
…I mean, at Warsaw in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on Sunday, the 28th. Kick out the jams with some kielbasa and beer! The first one in July was a blast. Here are the details. And here is a nice video…
