Judas Priest

What was Judas Priest’s first LP called?

Black Lips-Let It BloomHere’s a fun and funny little garage-punk tune from a newer band who some of us just saw play at the Siren Festival. I thought their show was great and I had never even heard them before that. They definitely set themselves apart from your typical indie-rock acts today. Listen up…

George Harrison

What George Harrison song closely resembles The Chiffons “He’s So Fine”?

Hey there, welcome to the new NewmRadio and to the inaugural blog post! I’ve switched locations once and for all to something that is better than any of NewmRadio’s previous incarnations, and something that is free. I couldn’t warrant paying $100 to renew my ‘dot mac’ account when the only thing I was using was the little bit of storage to publish via iWeb. Not to mention, iWeb is lacking in some features and is in dire need of an update. Let me know what you think of the new look and content and if you have any good ideas for stuff. And with that, let the inaugural Blog Jammin’ begin!

Woody Allen and Houston

  • Be sure to go see Franny and Josh’s play, Orange, directed by the lovely Jeff Griffin, before it closes on August 12th. I saw a final dress/preview on Friday night and it was great and has a really amazing group of actors…many of whom I had the pleasure to meet and hang with at McManus afterward. Go check it out… you’ll definitely dig.
  • The new Wes Anderson joint, Darjeeling Limited, looks very cool. I don’t care if everyone’s tired of him.
  • Some pics from July, as we move into August. Can you believe we have to go back to school soon!?
  • What else is going on? What’ve you been doing?

MC5-Back in the USA
Well, I’ve always been more familiar with the raucous and muddy-sounding live Kick Out the Jams album by the Motor City 5, but I just recently bought this Back in the USA studio joint and, man, does it rip! It’s from 1970 and is their second album and although it is referred to as the prototype for punk rock, the music is tight and well-produced. This is my current adrenaline album and makes perfect NYC-walking music. Dig…

QuartermassHey, here’s an old prog band that I was just recently turned on to. This band released one album in 1970, and that was it. It’s a great album…very keyboard driven and reminiscent of such bands with early prog roots as the Nice and Uriah Heap. I’m just posting a throwaway track that was added as a bonus track when the CD was released. it’s just a fun funky little song that you can’t help but dig. The rest of the album is a bit heavier and vocal-driven, but today’s a funky light-day, so dig it…

Wow! What a weekend this past one was. Perfect weather, live music, sun, Summer Breeze (…makes me feel fine), corn dogs, friends, friends dipped in batter and fried, Frances, cups of beer, ocean, sand, ice cream, rolly coaster, barbed-wire lady, nipples, bike, parks, kebabs, lists. I love New York, btw. Dig…

  • Here are the pictures, which Josh has been demanding since Saturday night, of Saturday’s Siren Festival at Coney Island. The bands I saw, which you’ll see in the photos, are the Detroit Cobras, Black Lips, and New York Dolls. You’ll also see in the pictures that there was a Cyclone injury to new New York resident and friend, Alex (who as of now, has no last name). Luckily there was a medic ambulance nearby to wrap-up his pulled back bloody toenail!
  • The next day I had a nice day all by mice elf. I rode my bike across the Brooklyn Bridge up the West Side, stopped for grub at a nice little grille on the pier (in the 20s, I believe) where I enjoyed a bloody mary and beef kebabs. After refueling, I continued on up to the 50s and cut across town to Central Park, hitting a street fair along the way, and hung out on the grass near Summerstage and listened to one of the Brazilian Girls’ opening bands for a lil’ while. Then I left the park and rode down 5th Ave, cut over to Broadway, and back over the Brooklyn Bridge to my home…where I would enjoy Sunday HBO goodness. Big Love, John From Cincinnati, Entourage, and Flight of the Conchords. Then, my long-estranged wife came home and we reacquainted ourselves with each other. Yay, that was her last weekend away of the past 4.
  • Speaking of Josh, go see Josh and Franny’s play this weekend, directed by Jeff Griffin, written by Ron Berry, titled Orange, which was nominated Best New Play by the American Theatre Critics Association.
  • Listen to the Scorps from their first album, 10 years before they rocked you like any form of weather system.
  • What else is happening out there these days?? Tell me, goddammit! Leave a comment below.
