Just to provide a little contrast to The Star-Room’s most recent List Listopherson, I decided that we need to talk about the BEST jobs we’ve had throughout our lives…since it’s Labor Day weekend and all. I don’t know if we can all come up with 5, but let’s give whatever we’ve got. I’ll try to get 5 down after the jump…

“This book is full of belly laughs, but I am suspicious of belly laughs as entirely happy experiences. The only way to get a belly laugh, I’ve found, is to undermine a surface joke with more unhappiness than most mortals can bear.” -Kurt Vonnegut

Anybody else got any great Vonnegut quotes, or quotes by anyone that stick with this sunny Labor Day weekend theme?

Remember my post celebrating the Zappa Plays Zappa tour last month? Well, I just received three copyright infringement notices from YouTube regarding my three Zappa Plays Zappa videos that I took on my little Powershot at a show in Red Bank, NJ last month. Here’s how they read:

Now, I was always one to give the Zappa Family Trust the benefit of the doubt when many people would bash them for squashing ANYTHING out there that the ZFT thinks they might want to make money on one day. But, come on, my vids of the show were far from professional and none of them were even full songs…I was just excited to share another great Zappa experience with other music-lovers. I sort of just wish they would’ve contacted me personally via YouTube first to ask me to take them down, and I would have done it immediately and respectfully. Now I’m a YouTube outlaw and I’m left a little sour. So anyway, Gail Z taught me a lesson and I will be sure to never to help promote another Zappa Plays Zappa tour again! You win, Gail.

What band was Peter Frampton in before going solo in 1971?

Burning Man See-Saw

Who recorded “Ride My See-Saw” in 1968?

Aphrodite's Child-666Alright, today I’ve got my new favorite shit for you. It’s two songs (since it’s a double album) from prog/psych rock trio, Aphrodite’s Child’s 1972 (year I was born) album, 666. This concept-y album was the brainchild of keyboardist and other instrumentalist, Vangelis…yes, the ‘Chariots of Fire’ Vangelis! This album is so radical and textured and has been in my ears quite a bit the last couple days. It’s filled with stuff like the next two tracks, and other stuff completely different, so dig…

The Mob Rules

In what movie did Black Sabbath’s “The Mob Rules” first appear?

I just saw this posted over at Hidden Track and thought it might be important for you all to see, so that you know that our government is making strides at passing legislation for the things that really affect us all, and those we love…and even vice versa…
