It’s kind of an awesome story that Nicole and I met over our love for Swedish psychedelic folk-rock. After the guys from Life On Earth! played live on BBiB a couple months ago, we walked outside the EVR booth and found Nicole Atkins there waiting to talk to Mattias and Martin, whom she had met when recording an album in Sweden a couple years ago…and whose music she loves.

Well, after meeting, I looked up some of Nicole’s work and found that she’s an absolutely badass singer and equally badass songwriter and that you all needed to hear her play live on Beyond Beyond is Beyond on East Village Radio. So that’s what’s goin’ down on Thursday at noon. You’ll want to hear this! Not to mention, Nicole’s bringing along her slide guitar player.
Here’s a couple Amazon reviewer quotes about Nicole that I love:
This is how songs should be constructed and arranged. She’s the Mozart of our time. – J.K. Peffers, Denver
…a cross between Janis Joplin and Fiona Apple, with a twist of 50′s retro and a sprinkle of goth for seasoning. – Erik F., Boston
On Neptune City, Jersey girl Nicole Atkins summons the iconographic spirits of Bruce Springsteen, Roy Orbison, Loretta Lynn, lets them live inside her, and proceeds to transcend them into what we hear on this record. In this genre-less record of darkly psychedelic Jersey-shore romanticism, Nicole Atkins throws her hat into that ring of artists managing to straddle the fence-line between indie and mainstream credibility and ends up being sucessful in this pursuit. - K. Porter, Austin

Hello Beyond-Space Cadets,
I’m excited to report that I will be chatting with Hawkwind founder and sole ever-present member, Dave Brock on Thursday’s Beyond Beyond is Beyond show. We’ll talk about the excellent new Blood of the Earth album as well as whatever else strikes our fancies (hehe, we have fancies). Of course I’ll have to ask about Lemmy and Stacia and touring with the MAN band back in the day.

So tune on in to Beyond Beyond is Beyond on East Village Radio at noon eastern on Thursday, and hear my convo with the great Dave Brock! I will also have the usual variety of stellar rock jams, including a SPECIAL TREAT from a metal band known (at least in Greenhills, Ohio in 1985) as Destroyer! This gem has been unearthed from 6-feet under after 25 years.
All Thursday, all Beyond Beyond is Beyond, all East Village Radio, all of us (or is it ‘we’?)!

Thought this was interesting (in the new Rolling Stone ‘From the Vaults May 8, 1975′)

I’m very pleased to announce that I’ll be interviewing Exmagma’s Andy Goldner on the next Beyond Beyond is Beyond show! I’ve been diggin’ Exmagma since I stumbled on their first and second albums from ’73 and ’74 a few years ago. And then my mind completely blew when I heard Exmagma 3, which was done in ’75 and never released until 2006!!! Then the pieces of my blown mind got together to form another human being who now lives inside my head, when I heard Andy Goldner’s 1978 solo album, Infinity.

If you don’t know Exmagma, get acquainted with this one… Exmagma-Box 25
And check out this amazing Andy Goldner promo video from ’78!
And you can find all the Exmagma and Goldner albums at Anthology Recordings
And tune in to East Village Radio at noon eastern on Thursday to hear my interview with Andy!

Hey Beyondites,
This week’s Beyond Beyond is Beyond show is quite special, as I’ll be welcoming Canadian ‘post-classic rockers,’ Plants and Animals. I’ve been championing these guys since I started the BBiB show early last year, spinning stuff from their Parc Avenue album quite often. And they just played a sold out show with Ra Ra Riot at Union Hall on Tuesday…with lots of touring ahead of them.
And now, with the release of their new album La La Land, they will be performing songs from the album live in the East Village Radio booth, 5 days before it’s release date…of 4/20!
Here we are outside the EVR booth…

So come join me, and Plants and Animals, at noon eastern Thursday at East Village Radio!

This Thursday on the ol’ East Village Radio show that I like to call Beyond Beyond is Beyond, I will be talking to the gold-throated ‘god of hellfire’ himself, the amazing Arthur Brown. As seen here, freaking the fuck out…
Esoteric Recordings is reissuing much of Arthur’s works, including the groundbreaking, earth-shaking Crazy World of Arthur Brown album, as well as Arthur Brown’s Kingdom Come albums.
I will also be paying tribute to MAN‘s fantastic guitarist/vocalist/songwriter, Micky Jones, who just passed away on March 10th, losing the battle to a brain tumor that he had been fighting for years. Micky will live on for many through the fine, fine music that he leaves behind. R.I.P. Micky…and thank you for the jams.
Coincidentally, Esoteric Recordings also did the superb remastering job with the MAN catalog as well, so this Thursday will be Esoteric Fest on Beyond Beyond is Beyond. So listen live at noon eastern, Thursday, March 18th to East Village Radio and let’s celebrate jams together! Sound good?
UPDATE: HERE’S THE ARCHIVE OF THIS SHOW! (…and the Playlist)
Legendary progressive rock and jazz drummer, Bill Bruford, has written a brilliant new autobiography, published by the good folks at Jawbone Press, so I lucked out and got this chance to talk to him on Beyond Beyond is Beyond on Thursday!

The book is absolutely brilliant and covers all the eras of Bill’s career, from Yes to King Crimson to UK to Gong to Genesis to Bruford to Earthworks, and we’ll definitely have lots to talk about on East Village Radio on Thursday at noon eastern, so be sure to tune in! Plus I’ll be giving away a copy of the book to one lucky winner. Email me your favorite Bruford tune at beyondbeyondisbeyond (at) gmail (dot) com for your chance to win it!

Hey Bologna-Boppin’ Beyonders,
I’m happy to announce that this week Beyond Beyond is Beyond will welcome So-Cal bent rockers, the Growlers to the show. I’ve been diggin’ these guys ever since Everloving sent me their new Are You In or Out? record. I lifted the ‘bent sound’ description from the Everloving website because it really fits the Growlers’ sound nicely:
…this “bent sound” has been perfected in their live act that some onlookers call “groovy” and or “sick”. The groovy unexcelled value in Lo fidelity sound is their stock and trade.
So get yourself further acquainted below with the “Something Someone Jr” video and then bring your ears to the far out reaches of Beyond Beyond is Beyond on East Village Radio on Thursday, 2/18, from noon to 2 EST. Here’s how to get there…

If you watched the Grammys (as I did for some reason), you know that the highlight of the whole event was when Jeff Beck took the stage for the Les Paul ‘How High the Moon’ tribute with an old friend of the Beyond Beyond is Beyond show, Imelda May on vocals. If you missed, dig…
I’m proud to say that this silver-throated Irish rockabilly knockout was on my Beyond Beyond is Beyond show on East Village Radio back in September, so I just thought I’d share the interview again. She and her husband and amazing guitarist, Darrel Higham, also performed an exclusive acoustic tune for us at the end of the interview.
Check out the news piece on the EVR website where there is a link to the interview

I also chose her Love Tattoo album as one of the Best of 2009.

As seminal progressive rock band Yes gets ready to head out on the North American road for a tour that will last exactly one month, we get the chance to talk to Yes bassist, Chris Squire, on Thursday on Beyond Beyond is Beyond. So tune in to East Village Radio on January 14th at noon and hear me cower before another one of my idols. Okay not really, but yeah, kinda.
Stuff I wanna talk to him about: current lineup, studio plans, Jon Anderson, Fish Out of Water, XYZ project with Jimmy Page in the early-80s, Benoit David, Oliver Wakeman and what modern music Chris listens to. So let’s see if I have time, or just the memory, to ask him about all these things.
