Don’t know who this guy is, but this song is pretty brilliant; it’s called ‘My Focken Glockenspiel’. And listen for the Phish reference…

I got an email from livephish.com telling me that I could get 25% off of all Phish show downloads, and I said ‘boy’. Then I went over to Hidden Track and noticed that they had a very nice 25th Anniversary post for the Vermont fellas who are reuniting to tour next year, and I said ‘man’. Then I saw the absolutely enthralling YouTube montage that Hidden Track featured, care of Jared Slomoff, and exclaimed ‘SHIT’!
So if you wanna exclaim ‘shit’ too, take the time to check out this amazing 25th Anniversary montage of the Phish boys. There’s a LOT of fun shit in here. Dig…

Happy Anniversary, Phish!
Well, as Hampton will be coming alive again in March 2009, and ‘The Phish’ from Vermont will be playing their first shows in 4 1/2 years…I started wondering what would be the first song that they play the first night back together at Hampton Coliseum.

I’m gonna pick “The Boys Are Back In Town”! I know, not likely, but at a Phish show anything is possible.
What’s your first song pick?
Shana Tova! Dig those Phish boys rockin’ “Avenu Malkenu” at 4:03 in…

And it looks like it’s going to be an extra sweet one as it has been confirmed (and grandiosely covered at Hidden Track) that ‘The Phish’ from Vermont will be reuniting and have a first show booked in March 2009 at Hampton Coliseum…unless you’re one of those grouches that hates Phish or the kind that can’t separate the music from the scene. Happy New Year to all of us Jews and the Jew in all of us!
Well I’ve been reading that Rothbury is the next Bonnaroo, and from what I’ve seen it does look like an amazingly well thought out music festival. And the festie is super-green. I dig that. I may have to take my ass out there next year, although it may be tough if ‘The Phish’ is touring again by then!

First and foremost, check out my Detroit Cobras review on Blog Critics…and leave some comments there, so it looks like I have some readers!
So I just saw this recent video of Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst on the Tom Green show and it is VERY interesting, to say the least. Homeboy is Rip Van Winkling!
After sort of trashing his hometown of Detroit in a recent Rolling Stone article, Jack White pens a poem for the Motor City. The only ‘trashing’ he did was saying that Detroit’s music scene was suffocating him.
You gotta read the comments section from this Stereogum Phish reunion post! Hilarious.
John Oates’ Moustache cartoon?
I’m looking forward to new Kings of Leon.
Thought you knew the Scorps from ‘Hurricane’ days? Well check this video from 1972!
And whoa! Look at the emaciated Alice Cooper in 1981. This is during his alcoholic relapse period.
Deaner’s got a new fishing show. You can view episodes at the Brownie Troop website.
Anyone heard Fleet Foxes yet? It sounds like there album’s a hands-down winner.
And what do you think of your iPod’s shuffle mode? Love it, hate it?
This video of Chromeo on Jimmy Kimmel is pretty amazing. I had not heard them before I saw this.
What else is up?
Well, it looks from this story (and all the other recent talk) that Phish will be getting back together in the very near future. Trey, Mike, and Jon all played together at this past weekend’s Rothbury festival in Michigan and here’s the meat of the report from Billboard (if you don’t wanna read it all)…
“Mike and I being two people who don’t shy away from trying new things, Anastasio introduced a pair of fresh tunes — “Backwards Down the Number Line” and “Alaska” — and further teased prospects of a reunion by saying, “If we could just find a drummer and a keyboard player somewhere…” But, he added, “you gotta start with the songs, and you guys can be our test audience.”
The new material went down a storm, but the biggest ovation came when Anastasio and Gordon finished the set with Phish’s “Chalkdust Torture.”…
…The real treat closed Gordon’s set, however, when Phish drummer Jon Fishman joined the ensemble for the Beatles’ “She Said, She Said,” sending the field into a state of dancing delirium.
So, as a hippie hipster human, I am excited to see that there are new songs and that it’s pretty much a done deal that I’ll being seeing Phish live in 2009.
Do you care? And are you a hippie, hipster, hater, or human? I’ve been trying to figure out the differences between hippie and hipster recently, since everyone seems to hate both.
Rolling Stone just spoke with Mike ‘Cactus’ Gordon (Gordon with a soft ‘G’, that is) and it’s looking like all the Phish reunion rumors are probably correct. Bring it on, boys!
Rolling Stone speaks with Mike Gordon
On having band dinners, optimism, and possibly recording with Steve Lillywhite…
“The band has had a couple of dinners and they’ve just been great,” Gordon tells Rolling Stone. “We’re all just excited about the idea of doing something sometime. I can’t guarantee it, but I’m optimistic.” As for Lillywhite, Gordon says, “We talked to him, actually. [The rumor] stemmed from reality. We love Steve Lillywhite. He would bring out some great things in us. But we don’t have specific plans to work with him. It was an idea and hopefully it’s something that if we rev things up, it could happen some day. We don’t know if we would tour first or make an album first. We have no idea.”
So should they tour first, then record an album…or vicey versey?
Well, I’ve got some good news and bad news but still very news-worthy items that came to light today…
Let’s start with the bad. YES has cancelled their 40th Anniversary tour slated for this summer due to Jon Anderson’s respiratory issues which he was hospitalized for last month. Read the press release here. It’s good to hear that it’s preventative more than anything. Have a respiratory-realxing summer, Jon. We love ya! Dig this for now…

And for the good news, Phish songwriter Tom Marshall was adding a lot more speculation to the recent Phish reunion possiblity rumours. Read Tom’s interview here. So till then, dig this…

OK, maybe not. But I had to post this link to Rolling Stone because a lot of us really like Phish, despite the rest of the music world’s opinions. Sod off, snooty buggers! I’d be happy to see them rock it again very soon!
Lookin’ good, Trey!
Hey all, I just had another piece published over at Blog Critics blog and it looks good if I get some clicks over there…and some comments. So do me a favor and check out the piece over here (it’s the same as the piece posted below), and it’s about a really good band that I can’t believe I haven’t heard until 2008! It just goes to show, there’s always music out there perfectly suited to your tastes just waiting to be discovered, so go find it!
MAN: The Best Band You’ve Never Heard In Your Life on Blog Critics magazine

The Welsh band, MAN, is certainly one of the Best Bands You’ve Never Heard In Your Life. Much like their Welsh peer band, Budgie, MAN has managed to have a loyal cult following since the ‘70’s, but just never was able to break through to major radio hit success like their fellow Welsh band, Badfinger. But then again, if you’re familiar with the fate of Badfinger (suicides of 2 of their primary members), MAN is probably not envious. In fact, MAN was a band that seemed to embrace the underground spirit of their music.
Radio hits or not, they certainly can hold their heads high, as they’ve left behind some of the most interesting rock music of the 70’s… and that’s saying a lot! Although mostly remembered as a progressive rock band, MAN did progressive in a way that was completely original from most other progressive bands, blending together the best elements of psychedelia, blues, vocal harmony, and West-coast style jam-driven rock and roll. Very much in line with such opinion-polarizing counter-culture bands The Grateful Dead and even Phish, MAN were praised for their live shows, which were never the same twice. But MAN’s jamming was less loose and laid-back than the Dead and a bit more gritty, thereby actually sharing more an affinity with Phish, especially in their use of the occasional silly lyric…“I like to eat bananas, because they got no bones…I like marijuana, ‘cause it gets me stoned” (from their live show staple, ‘Bananas’).
Busy weekend ahead; Mets game, new guitar, 2 stories to write, new nephew to visit, Mayim Rabim, and Mother’s Day… but I’ma do a little blog jammin’ here before the big weekend rush starts. Cool?
Neil Young‘s upcoming archival release on Blu-Ray DVD looks a-fuckin-mazing judging from this cool trailer. My only question…can I play Blu-Ray discs on my regular DVD player?!

Trey A. made a triumphant return to the stage at the Jammys
Speaking of Trey, do you need to add some shows to your collection? Well dig in, bro…
Check out this funny Mayer/Apatow video
Still not excited about a new Beck album really, even if it is Danger Mouse-produced and spur of the moment! The last couple albums left me a little empty, I must say.
Bob Lefsetz on stealing music. I’ve been digging this guy’s commentary.
Maybe Bloomberg was thinking it was the New York City Police he was celebrating.
Poor Winehouse. No link or anything. I’m just sayin’.
Can’t believe that it’s already been 8 years since I saw these guys at Big Cypress for NYE 2000! Where were you during the what-was-supposed-to-be-apocalyptical New Year’s 2000?

Makes me miss ‘em!
I’ve got a serious little lo-fi goodie here for ya’s. This is a song that popular rock band ‘The Phish‘ made famous via their live shows, but was written in 1985 by a man named Nancy who is also known as Richard Wright. Says Nancy or Mr. Wright regarding his/her names, “Nancy is a name that’s been with me all my life. I used to feel that I was a woman (specifically a lesbian) trapped in a man’s body and that ‘Nancy’ was my real name.”
Trey and Nancy had met at Goddard College in ’86, both familiar with each other’s work, and Nancy was happy to give consent when Trey asked if his band, Phish could cover Nancy’s song ‘Halley’ Comet.’ A couple years later Phish started also covering ‘I Didn’t Know‘ at their live shows. And that’s what I have for you today. Nancy’s original version of ‘I Didn’t Know‘. Please diggle, then giggle…
