Well, it’s been quite a week so far with Obama winning the Democratic nomination (go Barack!) and the passing of one of Rock’s true innovators and pioneers, Bo Diddley.  Not to mention, the birthday of my lovely wife on Tuesday and our second wedding anniversary today!  I am an extremely happy and lucky man.

And with the dreams of America’s regime change inching ever-closer to becoming reality, here’s my little photo tribute to the men and women in the Armed Forces who have been putting their lives on the line to protect our ways of life.  Hopefully we’ll soon get someone in office who won’t risk their lives frivolously and as a means to support their owns’ greed.  AND I couldn’t resist taking the pic when I saw these guys sitting at a table in Little Italy.

Howdy Sailors

So here’s some stuff to check out…

Speaking of photos, check this out, it’s really cool but it may just jerk a tear or two.

BO……DIDDLEY! Thank you and rest in peace.

Raconteurs on Conan.

There goes the neighborhood!

R.E.M. recently rocked “Ignoreland” for the first time.

Leaked Vampire Weekend demo performed by their keyboard player (and mastermind).  Be sure to look at all the comments.

Oh yeah, more great Diddley on NPR’s Monitor Mix!

Shameless plug...it looks good if I get some clicks on my articles.

New MAN remasters.  I’m completely addicted to this band now!

Hey guys, hope you all had as good a weekend as I did.  I think I was able to press that hard-to-reach reset button in that hard-to-locate place inside my soul…I think the Glenfiddich 18 year-old Scotch and good friends might’ve helped me along in that quest.  And you can’t underestimate the power of a good hamburger and hot dog.

Anyway, I bought three albums this weekend, two before I got on the train to Connecticut and one, as soon as I got back, after becoming newly-infatuated with a performer I saw on Later with Jools Holland whilst I was there.  That performer is Duffy and I think she’s absolutely fantastic!  Check out this YouTube of her song “Rockferry”.  That’s all I’ll say about her now so I don’t overstep my bounds on praise, but if you get a chance to check out her most recent performance on Later with Jools Holland, do it, but be prepared to have a new crush!

Duffy

So, let’s do a Sh*t L*st and talk about the last 5 albums that you’ve actually purchased, since I can talk about the other ones I got this weekend and find out what ya’ll are listening to.  Click on through to see my list and to post your own…

Things are beginning to feel like Spring here in New York.  We are definitely seeing some April showers, but we’re also smelling that undeniable Spring scent in the air…the scent of renewal, rubber tires, sex, subway stair urine, and candy floss.  I keep thinking how I need to get my back bike tire ‘trued’ before peak season hits.  It seems there’s a lot of music in the air these days too.

Sax Ear

Listen to this creepy sounding audio recording from 1860 that was just unearthed, just to prove that Thomas Edison wasn’t that great after all.  (You’ll find the audio in the left side middle of the article).  Pretty damn cool and even more lo-fi than your boy, Ariel Pink.

Required Classic Rock listening, in book form.  We just got a copy sent to work and I’ve been diggin’ in, as of today!  Of course it’s not totally complete (or it would be endless), but it’s always fun to read about hundreds of classic albums, when you’re me.

Hidden Track‘s got a nice review of one of my favorite newer bands, who I’ll be seeing Wednesday night at Mercury Lounge.

Oh yeah, I interviewed Jon Anderson from Yes last week.  Here’s the first few seconds of the 20-minute conversation with my female-pharynxed friend.  And yes, I was pretty damn nervous…I’ve only been listening to Yes records pretty regularly for over 25 years!

Josh found a killer new music blog.

This looks like the perfect time for a Guns N’ Roses reunion!
