It’s nice to get an occasional pat on the back for the love that you put into your work…you know? And in the world of commercial radio, it’s hard to know what’s good and bad and what’s right and wrong anymore…and I would venture to say that anyone in radio that thinks they know, simply don’t.

As the head writer and associate producer for our very small Nights With Alice Cooper production team, we are constantly doing a balancing act between playing to formula and being innovative. So it was nice to see NWAC (among other great terrestrial, satellite and internet programs) recognized in the most recent Elmore Magazine.

Reversing a long decline, a new flowering of soulful and creative rock programming has gained momentum on the radio. It is heard on commercial and public/community terrestrial stations, via satellite and on the Internet.

Inventive, imaginative, hip music programming is cropping up or becoming established on stations and websites, allowing listeners once starved for variety and ‘deep catalogue’ to hear everything from Alice Cooper’s favorite 1960s-era garage-rock songs to funky, forgotten post-war blues gems from Cincinnati’s King Records.”

This Thursday on the ol’ East Village Radio show that I like to call Beyond Beyond is Beyond, I will be talking to the gold-throated ‘god of hellfire’ himself, the amazing Arthur Brown. As seen here, freaking the fuck out…

Esoteric Recordings is reissuing much of Arthur’s works, including the groundbreaking, earth-shaking Crazy World of Arthur Brown album, as well as Arthur Brown’s Kingdom Come albums.

I will also be paying tribute to MAN’s fantastic guitarist/vocalist/songwriter, Micky Jones, who just passed away on March 10th, losing the battle to a brain tumor that he had been fighting for years. Micky will live on for many through the fine, fine music that he leaves behind. R.I.P. Micky…and thank you for the jams.

Coincidentally, Esoteric Recordings also did the superb remastering job with the MAN catalog as well, so this Thursday will be Esoteric Fest on Beyond Beyond is Beyond. So listen live at noon eastern, Thursday, March 18th to East Village Radio and let’s celebrate jams together! Sound good?

Legendary progressive rock and jazz drummer, Bill Bruford, has written a brilliant new autobiography, published by the good folks at Jawbone Press, so I lucked out and got this chance to talk to him on Beyond Beyond is Beyond on Thursday!

The book is absolutely brilliant and covers all the eras of Bill’s career, from Yes to King Crimson to UK to Gong to Genesis to Bruford to Earthworks, and we’ll definitely have lots to talk about on East Village Radio on Thursday at noon eastern, so be sure to tune in! Fresh from his Guinness World Record for longest live piano performance by any individual (27 hours, 3 minutes and 44 seconds), his piano battle with Andrew WK in New York, and a sold-our run at London’s La Pigalle Club, Paris-based pianist and showman Chilly Gonzales crosses the Atlantic for four “Piano Talk Shows” in New York City in February.

The self-proclaimed “Entertainist” will play every Thursday at Joe’s Pub, finally giving NYC a full-on taste of his futuristic cabaret performance. Each show will feature a guest from Gonzo’s extended musical family, each promising to bring fresh surprises of their own!

Meanwhile, the Grammy-nominated arranger/producer’s collaborations continue to multiply: he’s co-writing and producing the major-label debut of Thecocknbullkid, co-writing songs with Jarvis Cocker for “Get Him to the Greek” (a Russell Brand rock-movie spoof) and shooting new episodes of his cult web-TV show “SUPERPRODUCER” (presented exclusively with DailyMotion). Having already bagged the (also self-proclaimed) title of President of the Berlin Underground, Chilly Gonzales can now add another notch on his belt after successfully challenging Andrew WK to a piano-off at Joe’s Pub in New York last September and premiering his Jarvis Cocker collaboration “Francophobia” at London’s La Pigalle Club in November.

All Piano Talk Shows will feature PianoVision, a video installation created by Nina Rhode, aka Ninja Pleasure. Reminiscent of a silent movie, PianoVision allows the audience to see a video projection of the piano’s 88 keys, along with the master’s finger work.

I’m proud to say that this silver-throated Irish rockabilly knockout was on my Beyond Beyond is Beyond show on East Village Radio back in September, so I just thought I’d share the interview again. She and her husband and amazing guitarist, Darrel Higham, also performed an exclusive acoustic tune for us at the end of the interview.
